Small Sound Interventions Using Existing Infrastructure (SSIUEI) [ soo-ee ]

(clip of documentation)

The aim of this project is utilize pre-existing infrastructure in the city of Montreal as an instrument to create sounds from. It is as much a research, or documentation project about the way that Montreal sounds, as it is about exploring the sounds made. I'm using small inexpensive machines that can be planted semi-permanently to interact with the space and challenge peoples perception of architecture and the prefabricated objects. The focus is on objects that the Montreal municipality has placed around the city, garbage cans, street signs, etc. It is a comparison of old and new, and a look at objects that are democratically chosen to surround us.

small offering 2

This was a sound intervention project, based around a previous performance I had done as a small attempt to connect with neighbors I never interacted with. This piece is a portable speaker with the sound of an elderly mans voice reading poems which. I left the device in areas surrounding my house for an hour at dusk. It was my way of "lulaby bombing" and inserting myself into the neighborhood. This is an ongoing project.
